Sprintcar Action at Avalon Raceway
Updated: Sep 14
Saturday night delivered double the excitement with both the SRA Open Sprintcar Series and the SRA 360/LS Sprintcar Series in action.
Open Sprintcar Series – Great Southern Showdown
Jordyn Charge put on a standout drive, charging from the third row to take control before halfway and race away with the win in the Ken & Benisa Hutchins entry.
Behind him, Tate Frost and Luke Storer battled intensely, swapping positions multiple times before Frost secured second. The fast, high-speed track—helped by cool conditions and moisture—made for a rapid 30-lap feature. Rounding out the top ten were Glen Sutherland, Parker Scott, Lochie McHugh, Brock Hallett, Peter Doukas, Daniel Pestka, and Marcus Green.
Earlier in the night, group qualifying honours went to Dane Court, Frost, Terry Rankin, and Parker Scott. Heat race victories were claimed by Marcus Green, Jock Goodyer, Ashley Cook, and Brett Milburn. From the B-Dash, Parker Scott and Andrew Hughes advanced to the A-Dash, where Frost secured pole position by winning the all-important race.
360/LS Sprintcar Series – Little Showdown
Chris Solomon finally converted speed into results, claiming a well-earned win in the Brad Foster car. He made a decisive move on Brett “double duty: Milburn, who was slowed by lapped traffic.
Championship leader Jordy Rae stayed consistent, finishing third and banking valuable points.
Behind them were Rusty Ponting, Travis Millar, James Oliver, Matty Symons, Sam Wren, Shane Steenhold, and Logan Davis.
Heat race winners included Milburn, Symons, Millar, Thomas McDonald, Solomon and Rae.
With two features on the program, there were two Cool Performance Award winners with Lochie McHugh in the Open feature and Rusty Ponting in the 360/LS main event. Both of them were deserving winners of a brand new PWR Advanced Cooling Technology sprintcar radiator.
Marcus Green picked up the Open Dirt X Ind Hard Charger showing some impressive speed as he makes the most of a late season return to racing. James Oliver after winning the 360/LS B Main moved forward nine positions to be the other Dirt X Ind Hard Charger.
